(WTVM) -

A young boy who survived the May 20, Moore, OK tornado was killed by a Bullmastiff in Arkansas on Sunday. The 5 year old was staying with family friends while his parents remained in Oklahoma to rebuild their home.

Officials say the boy was crying and upset, and the dog possibly took that as aggression and attacked him.

The boy died at the hospital.

The dog's owner has been identified as 50 year old Lynn Geiling. She said she tried to pull the dog away, but by that time the boy had major lacerations to his head and neck.

The dog ran away after the attack and animal control is still searching for it. The dog will be euthanized after it is captured.

It is still unknown if the dog's owners will face charges.
