MESA, AZ (CBS5) - The boyfriend of a woman whose body was found in a Mesa mobile home has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Jose Gonzalez-Esparza made his plea in court Friday and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 29.

Joaquin Enriquez of the sheriff's office said Maria Gomez, 45, died after she was beaten with a bat during an apparent domestic violence argument.

Esparza called 911 to report he had found his girlfriend dead at home in the Trailing R Ranch park, 8730 E. Main St., Enriquez said.

Deputies found Gomez's body, but had to search the trailer park before they found Esparza, Enriquez said.

Enriquez said deputies determined Gomez, who owned the trailer, had been struck in the face and head with a baseball bat.

There were no other people in the trailer and there were no other witnesses, Enriquez said.

Esparza was questioned and later confessed to killing her, Enriquez said.
