WILLIAMS, AZ (CBS5) -

A Red Flag Warning will remain in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Kaibab and Coconino national forests.

Officials with both forests said strong winds and low relative humidity forced the warning.

Campfire and smoking restrictions are in effect on the entire Kaibab and Coconino National Forests to prevent human-caused fires.

Under current fire restrictions, fires are allowed in developed campgrounds only. However, during Red Flag Warning conditions, visitors are asked to avoid building fires anywhere on the forest, including in developed campgrounds.

A Red Flag Warning occurs when the forecast shows strong wind and low relative humidity, creating an increased potential for large fire growth. The campfire advisory remains in effect until the Red Flag Warning ends.

The National Weather Service predicts critical fire weather across portions of northern Arizona including the Kaibab and Coconino National Forests through tomorrow evening. Minimum relative humidity could be as low as 6 percent and winds are expected to be gusty. Visitors to the forests should use extreme caution.
