Midland to see expanded restaurant choices

Dining choices in north Columbus are about to grow substantially. The empty lots surrounding the Chick-fil-A on Beaver Run Road off Manchester Expressway are filling fast.

Tenants signed to the east building include Yogli Mogli, Moe's Southwest Grill, Subway, and Lakeside Village Bar and Grill. The west building will contain a Chicken Salad Chick, My Favorite Muffin, a nail salon, and possibly a Mexican restaurant. The realtors say they want the businesses to match the upscale apartments that opened in January.

Wendy Elliott of Woodruff Brokerage Company said a lot of money is being spent to make this an appealing destination.

"The apartments were a $3 million venture, and this behind it, it's hard to say how much it will cost because we're still working on it and we're trying to add different, unique touches that are more than what we're allowed to budget for. So we're kind of pushing the envelope, but we're excited about it," said Elliott, "As you come through you can park and find a little place to sit and eat and there may be another unique building that looks unlike the other buildings there. It may look like a rib shack, or it may look like a tiki hut, or something else, but we're trying to create some different avenues so you come and say, 'Wow, let me find out what's going on here.'"

Residents of Lakeside Village will be connected to the restaurants with a walking trail that makes a one mile loop.

Ashley Satterfield just moved to the apartments recently.

"I mean it wasn't really built up when we moved in, but just seeing their plans for it and the future of it, and it just looks so exciting. I love it. They have a variety of everything," said Satterfield.

There's still room to add a few more businesses, and Woodruff is keeping its eyes open for a good addition.

Lakeside Village resident, Jeri Malloy, said, "I would love to see a clothing boutique. All the restaurants are great that are coming to join Chick-Fil-A."

"We'd love to get a hotel in there and either build something or if another fast food chain came in or another sit-down restaurant came in, we'd love to do something with them," said Elliott.

What makes this shopping mall unique is that it will feature creative architecture and a large recreational space making it a cross between a business district and a park. The realtors are expecting the grand opening celebration will take place sometime in September.
