Dating app cuts to the chase, connects friends who want more

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Online dating sites have taken the dating world by storm, but what if you're looking for something a little less sweet and a little more straightforward? Well, there's no need to wine and dine with a new online app.

Bang with Friends cuts right to the chase. Here's how it works: you import your friends from Facebook and choose the ones who you'd like to have relations with. Then if your friend has the app and wants to have relations with you, too, then you're both notified that you both want to have relations with each other.

"It was just kind of having fun and taking a more straightforward and honest approach," said the founder of the app, Colin Hodge.

Since launching in January, Bang With Friends has soared in popularity, but Hodge said they hit a roadblock when Apple yanked the app off iTunes.

"Hopefully the things they found objectionable they will no longer find objectionable after we continue our conversations with them," Hodge said.

We decided to take the app to professional matchmaker Joann Cohen.

"People are losing their communication skills," Cohen said. "Because so much of communication is really not just verbal, it's body language. It's the tone of the voice."

She said while she encourages online dating, she said this app isn't for those looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right.

"There's no romance in it. It's pure sexual need, sexual desire, and getting it done as quickly as possible," Cohen said. "It's kind of like fast-food line, is how I would describe it."

"It has everything to do with the chemistry and whether you guys click or don't," said Anna Jackson. She said she sees nothing wrong with the app since she found her husband in the so-called fast-food line.

"It was mainly like this app is, I just saw his picture, liked what I saw, and I wanted him, simple as that, so I reached out," Jackson said.

"It gets the inhibitions out of the way. Then they can always meet," said Jouko Rissanen.

"Honestly, it does seem a little creepy, like you're creeping on your Facebook friends," Jim Kay said.

This app is intended for people 18 and older, although they don't verify people's ages other than through Facebook.
