Columbus Fire Dept. cleared of tampering with files in day care fire

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

While an overall GBI probe of a 2010 daycare fire handled by Columbus Fire Department continues, investigators tell News Leader 9 that evidence files in a 2010 daycare fire were not tampered with.

Earlier this year District Attorney Julia Slater called for the investigation after several accusations that fire officials may have altered documents related to the day care fire that killed one child and injured three others.

Special Agent Wayne Smith with the GBI told News Leader 9 that their job was to discover if the files concerning the day care fire on Mill Branch had been tampered with.

He says there is no word on when the entire investigation on the daycare fire will be completed.
