A Brooks County Extension Agent is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the University of Georgia.

UGA Police charged Johnny Widdon with 22 felony counts of "theft by taking" and 47 counts of "unlawful use of state resources".

They say he diverted more than $11,000 dollars from accounts meant to help run the extention office in Quitman, Ga.

Whiddon's attorney says he is innocent.

"Not only did it shock Johnny Whiddon but I think it probably surprised anybody who knows Johnny Whiddon. He's a well respected and loved man in that community," said attorney Byron Watson.

Whiddon retired from his position on May 1st.
