NBA Cares ambassador speaks to Ft. Benning soldiers about PTSD

A special guest speaker from New Jersey made it all the way down to Fort Benning on Tuesday, June 18 to speak to soldiers about post traumatic stress.

Bob Delaney, a former police officer, told soldiers that after being involved in an undercover mob job with the FBI, he dealt with post traumatic stress.

He wanted soldiers to know it can be dealt with, and that he did so by becoming a basketball referee -- leading him to the NBA.

We had the chance to speak with Delaney, who explains why military personnel are at a higher risk for post traumatic stress.

"All of us are susceptible to post traumatic stress as a result of Haiti, Katrina, an automobile accident is the most common cause of post traumatic stress, but it's those who serve who are in the higher risk group - they see what the rest of the world does not see," said Delaney, who is an ambassador for NBA Cares.

He said that when he was dealing with post traumatic stress, he surrounded himself by things that made him happy.

He believes that, along with talking about your problems, will help you to deal with stress.
