MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Authorities say two occupants on a boat that was traveling the Alabama River are safe after escaping the vessel after it began taking on water.

The incident happened on the Alabama River Tuesday afternoon just north of the Northern Boulevard area on the east bank of the river.

Authorities with the City of Montgomery say fire and rescue units were dispatched to the incident on the river, but the boaters were able to safely exit the craft and swim to shore.

Authorities say there were no injuries.

The boat was later towed from the scene.

No additional information regard the cause of the leak were immediately available.
