BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Birmingham man found guilty of threatening President Barack Obama on Twitter has been sentenced to serve one year in prison.

Jarvis Britton, 26, pleaded guilty in March to tweeting threats to the president in September 2012.

A grand jury indicted Britton for "knowingly threatening to kill, kidnap or inflict bodily harm on the president" for tweeting the message, "Let's kill the president. F.E.A.R." on Sept. 14, 2012.

In February, federal judge C. Lynwood Smith Jr. ruled that Britton was competent to stand trial.

After Britton serves a year in prison, he will be on supervised release for three years.

The Secret Service investigated the case, according to U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance.
