COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A Fundraiser for Captain Jack Long took place today, Friday June 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of 10th and Bay by Columbus State University.

The local community came together to help this Columbus Police Officer who has spent his life helping others. Captain Long is not only fighting crime, he is also fighting cancer.

The Fraternal Order of Police, local law enforcement, and businesses organized the fundraiser to help Long and his family with expenses and medical bills.

Captain J.D. Hawk of the Columbus Police Department has been friends with Long for 30 years. He invited the community to come out, support the event, and pray for Jack and his family. "He's a brother in law enforcement, and he's a friend," says Hawk, "So we're just doing our job."

Country's Barbeque provided food at the event. Tickets were 10 dollars.
