Lee Co. names Brandon Brock head baseball coach

LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

For the first time in 25 years, the Lee County Trojans have a new head baseball coach.

Brandon Brock was named the new Trojan skipper Wednesday.

Brock played baseball for the Trojans and graduated from Lee County High in 1994, and has spent the past eight seasons as an assistant with the team.

"I wanted to be here. Even when I moved away to go to Valdosta for school, I knew my dream was to come back here," Brock says. "There's other good programs, but this is the pinnacle of high school baseball to me, and we've got to get it back there."

Brock takes over for Rob Williams, who stepped down in May after 25 years as the Trojans head coach.

He says it's fitting he'll take over for the man who taught him much of what he'll bring to the Trojans' dugout.

"It's the respect he has for the game. Just the intangible things: the hard work, making sure things are done right," Brock says. "Those are the things he passed on to me as a player and a coach- just do it the right way and have class, on and off the field."

Brock says he knows the legacy Williams leaves behind and the expectations of the Lee County baseball program.

But he says it's not a pressure he fears, rather one he welcomes.

"The pressure doesn't come from my predecessor. It just comes from making sure we take care of this quality baseball program, because the people that have come before me have done a lot to make it what it is," Brock says. "But the pressure? There's always pressure. It's a desire. It's a used stress that we want and crave."

The new skipper takes over a program coming off a down year by Trojan standards. Lee County finished fourth in Region 1-AAAAA and was ousted in the first round of the state playoffs in 2013.
