BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A retired U.S. Marine is walking to the capital of every single state including Hawaii and Alaska to help active duty service members.

Mac McQuown is planning on completing his 15,000 mile walk as part of his Operation Walk America. McQuown says he was moved to start his walk after 9/11.

His goal is to raise money for homeless veterans and help spread awareness of all service members' needs whether they are active or not.

"Wants people to remember soldiers, no matter how people feel about the wars, these brave men and women who put their life on the line so people have the right to say that," McQuown said.

According to McQuown's website, he will be in Alabama through August. He often rests at fire departments during his trip and carries supplies with him.
