Lower gas prices affecting holiday travel plans

(WTVM) -

According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gas has been falling for 19 straight days to $3.49. This decline is expected to continue.

For the more than 34 million people across the country who are expected to travel on the roads for Fourth of July week, this comes as great news.

Justin Humphrey travels from Opelika to Phenix City everyday, and says he is not only happy about these falling prices, but thinks they may impact his holiday plans as well.

"A lot of people don't want to fill up their gas when the prices are high," says Humphrey. "If they're lower, a lot more people can come to gas stations because I see that even when gas drops three cents. A lot of people are at the gas stations filling up and are happy. I am one of those people, so I'm glad to see the gas prices go down."

Currently, the cheapest gas in Columbus is at Liberty Station on 4th Street, where the price is $3.17 a gallon. The cheapest gas in Phenix City is $3.11 at the Marathon station, 310 Seale Rd.
