SELMA, AL (WSFA) -

The Selma Police Department's Special Victims Unit has arrested and charged a Dallas County Animal Control officer in connection to sexual abuse of a minor.

Authorities say Dallas County Animal Control officer Chris Tripplett was taken into custody Monday around 10 p.m. and charged with two counts of sodomy in the second degree and two counts of rape in the second degree.

The victim, said to be 15, and Tripplett are said to have come in contact with each other while they were working with the Dallas-Selma Animal Shelter under the Summer Youth Work Program.

Investigators say Tripplett formed a relationship with the victim that led to sexual encounters in June of 2013. Authorities say Tripplett would pick up the victim and transport her to Sardis, Ala. where he would perform the sexual acts.

Tripplett is being held on a bond of $120,000 at the Dallas County Jail. If convicted on the 4 Class B Felony charges he's accused of, he could spend between 2 and 20 years in state prison.
