WICKENBURG, AZ (CBS5) -

Hundreds of people evacuated from the small town of Peeples Valley will be allowed to return to their homes Thursday night.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office made the announcement around noon on Thursday that they plan to lift the evacuation order for residents in Peeples Valley at 6:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Yarnell residents won't be going back to assess the damage at their homes until at least Saturday.

Some already know the fate of their homes but others are anxious to find out if their homes survived the fire.

Stacy Pizzirusso already knows she will have to rebuild.

"That fire turned and it turned with a vengeance," Pizzirusso said.

She grabbed some of her family's belongings and left town just minutes before the flames reached her home.

"It took out our neighborhood in about an hour as well as the 19 firefighters who were trying to help us," she said.

Others, like Dan Risk, evacuated before the flames reached Yarnell. He still doesn't know what remains on his street.

"To hope for something then to get there and find it's gone," he said, "that's like someone pulled the rug from under you and you hit face first on the floor."

Risk is hoping for the best but preparing for the worst; like many in a community that will not know what remains until the weekend.

"We're not in this alone," Pizzirusso said. "There's several families in the same boat as us and their homes are gone as well."

Even for those who know they will not have a home to return to, many are anxious to find what survived the blaze. The hard part, they say, is waiting until Saturday to be allowed to return.
