MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

A pilot had a scary moment when landing his small aircraft and the landing gear did not come down all the way, but two other pilots helped him land his plane safely.

The Mesa Fire Department said the plane was attempting to land at Mesa Gateway Wednesday night, but the landing gear didn't work properly.

The Mesa Police Department said two pilots in the Mesa police helicopter helped the pilot through the emergency procedure.

One if the helicopter pilots is an instructor in the same type of plane that had the emergency. The second crew member is also rated in the same type of plane and both are familiar with the emergency procedures to make a safe landing, Mesa police said.

The pilot managed to land the plane safely with no injuries.

The plane had a small fuel leak, Mesa fire officials said. The left-wing landing gear snapped, and the left wing is scratched.
