2 traffic fatalities over the holiday weekend

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Two separate fatal traffic accidents have claimed the lives of two men.

In Auburn, 19-year-old Jayson Logan Tipper of Auburn is dead after he apparently pulled into the path of a tractor trailer while traveling north on Highway 147. Tippet was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering from massive internal injuries. He was allegedly on his way home and he was wearing his seatbelt.

In Opelika, 57-year-old Samuel Ray Gilbert Jr of Texas is dead after being hit be a vehicle Sunday morning at approximately 11:25 AM.

Gilbert had been involved in a minor accident with another vehicle on Interstate 85 in Opelika traveling south. When Gilbert was waiting for police to arrive, another vehicle traveling south apparently lost control, left the roadway and struck him.

Gilbert was pronounced dead at the scene to massive blunt force injuries. Gilbert's two children were in the vehicle and they were not injured.

According to the Lee County Coroner, the family was on their way home to Texas after a family gathering in Georgia. The driver of the vehicle that struck Gilbert was not injured as well as the two occupants of the vehicle that Gilbert had his first collision with.

Both accidents are still under investigation by the Lee County Coroner's Office.
