COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Congratulations to our 2nd Quarter winner of Give 9!

The Golden Rule, out of Taylor County, is taking home the top prize of $5,000 after receiving the most out of more than 14,000 votes cast.

The organization helps give women long-term treatment for substance abuse issues.

The clinical director Harriot Felts accepted the check on behalf of The Golden Rule.

"We give ladies an opportunity to come and redeem themselves, learn a way to live, change old behaviors," says Felts.

One of the women helped is Sarah Betancourt, who was addicted to methamphetamines.

"It totally takes control of your life, the mind obsession is the craziest and hardest part to overcome. It's helped me to learn tools to be able to cope and move on with my life," says Betancourt.

She's graduating after 12 months, joining 800 ladies who have completed the program in the last 16 years.

The check was awarded at Headquarter Nissan. General Manager Terry Bell was present.

"It impacts people's lives, there's a lot of need out there. We can make a difference in people's lives, something neat to be a part of," he says.

The Golden Rule will not be able to win again this year. The same goes for last quarter's winners, Animal Ark Rescue.

The 3rd Quarter for Give 9 has already begun. To vote for your favorite charity log into wtvm.com and click on "Give 9". Organizations must be non-profit 501(c)(3).
