(WTVM) - Gov. Robert Bentley announced that former Alabama Secretary of State Jim Bennett is taking up his old job.
Bennett will serve out the remainder of current Secretary of State Beth Chapman's term.
She steps down on July 31st.
Bennett says he will not be a candidate for Secretary of State in 2014.
"I think the governor, and I do appreciate the confidence that he expressed in me, he's a good friend, wanted someone who wouldn't be a candidate for the full term that will be subject to the 2014 elections. That was fine with me. I just like to get back in the saddle," he says.
Bennett was previously appointed Secretary of State for Alabama in 1993 and was elected to the position in 1994 and 1998.
