PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

The mother of a severely malnourished 15-month-old girl who died in July has joined her husband in pleading not guilty in the girl's death.

Denise Snow-Ingram, 38, pleaded not guilty Thursday to the felony child abuse charges in connection with the death of her daughter.

Ernest Ingram, 38, entered a similar plea Monday in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Snow-Ingram denied the allegations and said neither of them ever mistreated any of their seven children.

Phoenix police officers went to the Ingram home at 10:15 a.m. on July 10 to investigate a report of a baby who wasn't breathing.

The 15-month-old girl was taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital, where she died.

Police said the child weighed fewer than 9 pounds, was suffering from "profound malnutrition" and had numerous fractures of the ribs and extremities.

They said the baby apparently hadn't been seen by a doctor since birth because of the parents' religious beliefs.

Both parents told officers they believed the child's developmental stages were "a little slow," said Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump.

Six other children, ranging in age from 3 to 12 years, were removed from the family's home.
