COVENTRY, CT (WFSB) -

There's plenty of cleaning up going on in Coventry after severe storms and a possible tornado ripped through the area late Wednesday afternoon.

"It was going crazy," one Coventry resident said. "I've never seen such strong winds like that before around here. Out first reaction was to get into the basement."

Many neighbors in Coventry did that, taking shelter from the severe weather that tore through this part of Tolland County.

Mother Nature made quite the mess, causing barns to collapse on South Street, while on Coventry Road, a huge oak tree came crashing through the roof of a home. Across town, the driving rain and the wicked wind toppled trees and left limbs snapped in two.

"I noticed windy trees going everywhere," one resident said. "It went right down the side of my house and the backyard. All my trees are gone. I've never been so scared in my life."

As residents wait for a final word from the National Weather Service on whether this was indeed a tornado, some have already made up their minds.
