A 14 year old Albertville boy is recuperating after falling from a 100 ft. bluff in Etowah County, Ala.

It happened on July 10th at around 9:30pm on Buzzard Rock Rd. in Altoona. Etowah County's Sheriff Tod Entrekin says the teen and a few others were hiking in the woods when the boy fell.

Deputies and rescue workers from Etowah and Blount Counties located the teen within an hour, but the terrain was so rough it took five hours to get workers and a basket to where the boy landed.

Rain, lightning, and severe weather made the rescue perilous.

"We've had severe weather the whole time we've been out here, luckily. You know, it didn't get as bad as in other parts of the state here tonight, but it made the rescue a lot more dangerous, and you know, just thanks to all these guys that worked hard, and ladies and gentlemen that worked hard out here tonight," says Entrekin.

The boy was taken by ambulance to Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

The Sheriff says he didn't know the extent of his injures but he believes he will recover.
