Col. Scott Avery takes command of Martin Army Community Hospital

Col. Timothy Lamb turned command of Martin Army Community Hospital over to Col. Scott Avery at a change of command ceremony on Friday, July 12, 2013. The ceremony took place at York Field.

Lamb is retiring after arriving at Fort Benning in July 2011. In his address during the ceremony, Lamb expressed confidence that Avery is the right man for the job.

"I have no doubt that he will continue to take care of the people and building in the legacy to improve the health and healthcare mission for others to follow," said Lamb. "He is indeed the right man at the right time at the right place to command Martin Army."

Avery also made an address during the ceremony. "To the soldiers, civilians and family members of Martin Army Community Hospital," he said. "I promise to provide you with the best possible leadership, to provide you with fiscal resources and human intellectual capital required to thrive in an environment of budgetary uncertainty."

Avery assumes control of the hospital during a time when construction of the new 745,000 square foot facility is underway, and furloughs are affecting the staff as a result of federal budget cuts.
