BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Investigators are looking for the person believed to have purposely set a couch on fire early Monday morning that resulted in a house being damaged.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department said it happened at a home on East Harrison Street, near the I-10 Service Road off East Washington Street, around 3:30 a.m.

Officials said they have ruled this arson. They think a couch on the front porch of the home was intentionally set on fire at the vacant home.

According to reports, the owner told firefighters he was staying next door with his mother when the fire started.

Firemen said the flames spread up the front porch wall and into the attic before they could get it under control. The rest of the home had smoke and water damage.
