(WTVM) - The NAACP is acting quickly to collect petition signatures calling for the federal prosecution of George Zimmerman with the Department of Justice.
While many lawyers across the nation have publicly commented that the legal requirements for a conviction in this case were not met, this raises the issue for many of whether the judicial system or laws need to be changed to serve justice.
Columbus NAACP President Nate Sanderson says everyone must act to fuel change.
"And we have to change these laws and if we can't change the laws, then we need to change the people that make the laws," Sanderson said.
More than 350,000 signatures have been collected calling for federal charges.
The Department of Justice confirms it is already conducting an investigation into whether or not Zimmerman should be charged with a hate crime.
