FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -

It's a major milestone for one Fort Benning unit: the Sledgehammer Brigade is excited after going a year with no traffic fatalities.

News Leader 9 was there when half of the 3rd Armored Brigade combat team returned from tour in Kuwait.

Sledgehammer leaders say it's when their men and women return, that there is an elevated concern for soldiers' safety.

Soldiers don't drive motorcycles and few drive on public streets during deployments.

According to a Safety and Occupational Health specialist with the 3rd Brigade, all motorcycle riders had to go through simulator and safety training programs.

The 3rd Brigade unit hopes to make it to another year of having no traffic fatalities from any of the soldiers.
