COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Administrators at Rothschild Middle School are looking to change the school's name to shed a negative image many in the community have about the school.

Rothschild Principal Michael Forte and Assistant Principal Carmen Weeks want to change the school's name by the start of the new school year to Rothschild Leadership Academy.

"We want to make sure our children are able to speak with anyone... and feel confident and be ready for the global society that they are facing as they become adults," says Weeks.

Weeks, who is entering her second year as Assistant Principal at Rothschild, is looking forward to the change. She says having Forte join the team this year has been a seamless transition.

"He is a firecracker as far as making sure things are going, and we are just working together to be the best leaders for our school to be the best instructional leaders that make the difference in our district," she says.

Forte told the Board they were not changing the name of the school, but adding to it by encouraging students to be leaders and shedding its negative image. Board members rallied around the cause, calling it a change for the better.
