A new study has proven what most women already suspect: they are more likely to get ripped off on car repairs.

For example, researchers had men and women call auto shops for repairs.

They discovered the same repairs would cost women hundreds of dollars more than men.

Mark Long is the service manager at Jay Toyota and gives an important tip to women by stating women should check your manual before any repairs or maintenance.

"When you're in for service look at your maintenance guide," Long said. "It's going to tell you when you need an oil change tire rotation. It's got everything broken down in it. It's just a handy thing to have."

He said it's especially handy during hot months when maintenance is a must.

"It's summertime and you want to look for tire pressure for one cause of the heat you want definitely good fuel mileage," Long said. "In between spring and summer months there's a lot of traveling if your going out of town of course any road trips are going to pick up more of your trash in your cabin filters and engine filters so you definitely want to make sure those are changed."

It may sound simple, but if you don't keep up with oil changes; that negligence can cost you big bucks down the line.

Every car is different.

Years ago the time to change your oil was really simple: every three months or 3,000 miles, but with the improvements made to engine oil as well as cars you need to depend on your owners manual for the best recommendation of how frequently your car may need an oil change. It could be 3,000, 7,000 or 10,000.
