Valley, AL man fails to escape arrest, held on multiple charges

AUBURN, AL -

According to the Auburn Police Division, Anson M. Tompkins, 25, of Valley, Ala., has been arrested and charged with Theft of Property 1st Degree, Public Intoxication, Rendering False Information to Law Enforcement, and Escape 3rd Degree.

On Tuesday, July 16, at approximately 3:40 a.m., patrol officers responded to the parking lot of an apartment complex located in the 300 block of South College Street in reference to the report of a person attempting to steal a motorcycle. 

Upon arrival officers contacted Tompkins and took him into custody.  He was transported to the Auburn Police Division's detective section to be interviewed. 

While at the police building, Tompkins bolted from custody but was quickly apprehended in an adjoining parking lot. 

Tompkins has been transported to the Lee County Detention Center where he is currently being held on a $9,500 bond.
