Mohave County deputies blame a dust storm for a four-vehicle pileup on a county road in northwestern Arizona Thursday evening.

The dust roared through the area of Pierce Ferry and Greggs Hideout roads just before 6 p.m., forcing three vehicles to stop or slow to a near stop on Pierce Ferry Road. A Ford pickup truck drove into the dust cloud and struck the other three vehicles, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The driver and a passenger in a Jeep Liberty, both from Germany, were flown by medical helicopter to a Las Vegas hospital with serious injuries, but they were expected to be OK, according to the release.

No one else was injured.

All four vehicles were had to be removed by tow trucks.

An investigation continues into the crash, according to the release.

The sheriff's office said motorists who find themselves in a blowing dust storm should pull as far off the right side of the road as safely possible, turn off the vehicles lights and take their foot off the brake and wait for the storm to pass and visibility improve.
