MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Panama City Beach police confirm former Auburn basketball standout Korvotney Barber was found dead at 3:49 PM Sunday afternoon. His body was floating between the Boardwalk Condominiums and the Top of the Gulf condominiums in Panama City.

Barber was swimming with family and friends off the coast Saturday night. Barber, along with two others, were caught in an undertow. The two with Barber eventually were able to escape, but Barber did not resurface.

A large search effort was mobilized around 7 p.m. Saturday evening around Barber's last known whereabouts in the water.

The beaches were closed to the public on Saturday due to double red flag conditions which signify dangerous currents.

Officials have confirmed Barber's death as of Sunday evening.

Jay Jacobs, Auburn University's Athletic Director, tweeted Sunday afternoon on the search for Barber.

"@jayjacobsauad: My thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with the family and friends of Korvotney Barber during this tremendously difficult time."

Current Auburn basketball coach Tony Barbee also offered his condolences to Barber's family.

"@CoachTonyBarbee: Former AU basketball player Korvotney Barber is missing & believed to have drowned last night. My thoughts & prayers go out to his family."

Barber played four seasons at Auburn from 2005 to 2009. He has since played overseas in the European basketball league.
