FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -

A group of Ft. Benning soldiers are preparing for a nine month deployment to Afghanistan.

The approximately two dozen soldiers assigned to the 497th Movement Control Team will deploy to Kandahar Airbase in Afghanistan, taking part in in the unit's fourth deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The unit falls under the 203rd Brigade support battalion, which is a component of the third armored brigade combat team.

They will be assigned to the 309th joint movement control battalion, and play a vital role in one of the largest retrograde operations in our army's history.

And if that's not enough, nine of the soldiers in the unit volunteered to deploy, and one even chose to extend his service agreement in order to return to Afghanistan with the unit.

The soldiers will be departing on July 22 from Kelley Hill.
