Korvotney Barber will be laid to rest in his hometown of Meriwether County in what is expected to be a massive funeral service for the well loved basketball star. Those who knew and loved Barber, known as “Vot,” say they are devastated by the sudden loss of the 26-year-father of two young children. Carol Lane, the superintendent of Meriwether County, was close with Barber and his family. She describes him as humble, gentle and courageous. Lane says his funeral will be held at Manchester High School’s gym, where Barber was a star basketball player. We spoke with the high school's longtime secretary who could not stop crying, describing how much Barber was adored by everyone he met. The former AU basketball star is suspected of drowning over the weekend in the ocean at Panama City. His body was recovered on Sunday and an autopsy is being conducted. He was a standout star basketball player at Auburn University, where he graduated in 2009. He did suffer an injury, but played ball in Europe and was months way from getting married. Hundreds if not thousands are expected to attend his funeral. Lane says the details are still being worked out, but we will keep you updated. Copyright 2013 WTVM. All rights reserved.
