Northern beats Toccoa to stay unbeaten

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WTVM) - It was the Trent Grantham show on the mound and at the plate as the Northern All-Stars beat Toccoa 4-1 on Monday night at the Georgia Little League state tournament in Richmond Hill.

Grantham was 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBI. He also picked up the win as starting pitcher, throwing 4 1/3 hitless innings and striking out ten. Noah Lee pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, giving up one hit and one unearned run and striking out three.

Grantham got Northern on the board in the first inning, driving in Austin Hicks and Colby Brabston with a single. He singled home Tyler Hanson in the fourth inning to make it 3-0 Northern.

The final Northern run came in the sixth when Josh Evans scored on a passed ball.

The win gives Northern a 3-0 record in Pool A. They face the other undefeated team in the pool, Martinez-Evans American (2-0) at 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday. A win would give Northern first place in the pool and a berth in Thursday's state semifinals.
