Heavy rain adds to water woes for one community

Monday's heavy rains meant more problems for people in the Lagos Del Rey subdivision in Hope Hull.  Residents reported flooded streets and water backing up into at least one home.

"I came home it was flooded, the water had come through from the ditch out there, all the way through in my home," said Valeria Marshall, who lives in the neighborhood.

Marshall is among the residents blaming the infrastructure in the area, which they say has contributed to a sinkhole in Marshall's yard. They've been told the land on which the subdivision was built is to blame. Residents said they have appealed to the county for help, but said they have not made much progress.

"It's unbelievable the amount of water we receive in this neighborhood and a lot of the water is coming off 31," said Lee Underwood, who is vice-president of the neighborhood association. "It just really mess up your whole day, you just can't do anything."

"It's not good for my floors, it's not good for my grandkids, it's a health hazard," Marshall said.

Marshall has been told that since the sinkhole sits a fair distance from the curb, it is her responsibility. WSFA 12 News placed calls to County Commissioner Elton Dean, who represents the area, but have not yet received a response.
