ELOY, AZ (CBS5) -

Rain from this past weekend, along with Monday's downpour, has resulted in several water-logged roads in the Toltec community of Eloy.

"Coming down Shedd Road, it was just like a river," said Mina Sanchez who lives nearby. "We always call it Shedd River when it rains."

Sanchez was driving home to Eloy, after running errands, as the storm hit around noon.

"It was just – I mean, there was no visibility," she said.

According to CBS 5 Chief Meteorologist Chris Dunn, an estimated inch to an inch and a half of rain fell within about an hour - flooding most of Shedd Road and several other side streets.

Several stuck cars had to be pulled from the muddy water, which crept very close to homes.

"I'm just really happy that before I got here – my family from Casa Grande and Eloy came and helped me out and just kind of took care of my home," said Armando Diaz.

Diaz came home Monday afternoon from a camping trip in northern Arizona to find his yard flooded.

Water and mud made it into his garage.

But, for the most part, his house is not damaged this time.

Diaz urges the city to "do something" to prevent future flooding in this high-risk area.

"I've been telling them this from four years ago that they need to keep those areas clean - those culverts clean - and have better flood control," he said.

Despite the flooding fiasco drivers and homeowners faced, children in Eloy seemed to have found a silver lining.

"We don't mind at all," said two little girls who played in a water-filled gully in their bathing suits. "It's fun. We're swimming in the streets - because it's all flooded."

Dunn said heavy rain is not in the forecast for Eloy, so this area might have some time to dry out before the next storm hits.
