Police: Man breaks into home, tries to give woman back rub

BOONE, NC (WBTV) -

A Boone man was arrested after breaking into a home and trying to give a woman a back rub, according to the Boone Police Department.

On July 16, Julio Antonio Yanez, 29, went into an apartment on Oak Street, believing it to be the home of an acquaintance, police said.

Yanez, who was at the wrong apartment, was asked by the female resident to leave. Instead, the report states, he attempted to give her a back rub. He left after being instructed to leave again.

On July 22, police identified Yanez as a suspect in the case.

Yanez was arrested, taken before a Watauga County Magistrate, and charged with one count of misdemeanor breaking and entering and one count of misdemeanor assault on a female.

He was assigned a court date of September 17, and released on a written promise to appear in court.

As Appalachian State University starts the fall semester, Boone Police say it is a good time to remember the following safety tips:

  • Be aware of your surroundings. If you see something that looks suspicious, call the police. We don't ever mind coming and finding out that it's not suspicious.
  • If you're out walking at night, carry a cell phone so that you can call if something happens.
  • Always try to walk with a friend when out after dark.
  • Always try to walk in well-lit areas and avoid secluded spots.
  • Always lock you doors.
