Northern wins again, clinches state semifinal berth

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WTVM) - The Northern All-Stars are moving on.

Austin Hicks had two two-run homers and Trent Grantham had a three-run shot to lead Northern to an 11-4 win over Martinez-Evans National on Tuesday night at the Georgia Little League State Tournament in Richmond Hill.

The victory gives Northern a 4-0 record and first place in Pool A, and the berth in the state semifinals that goes with it.

Northern scored early and often. In the first inning, Grantham hit his three-run homer. In the second, Hicks had the first of his two-run shots while Ben Sloan added a run on a wild pitch.

The third inning was the big frame for Northern, as they scored five times. Hicks had his second two-run homer, while Joseph Crowell had a two-run double and Colby Brabston added an RBI double.

Hicks and Brabston combined to throw a 5-hitter.

Northern will play the runner-up in Pool B on Thursday at 10 a.m.

Warner Robins American East claimed first in Pool B with an 8-1 victory over Murphey Candler National on Tuesday night. They will play the Pool A runner-up at 1 p.m. Thursday.

The state championship game is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday.
