(WTVM) - Lee County is looking for volunteer firefighters.
Leaders want to make sure 99% of people who live in the county have a fire station within five miles of their home.
They're looking for at least 30 volunteers and hope to build three volunteer stations and two sub-stations.
Rick Muggridge, Chairman of the Lee County Board of Commissioners, had this to say:
"We are right in the middle of really taking a hard look at the way we deliver fire protection as well as emergency services. We believe to broaden our coverage to the north end of the county that were gonna need to enlist the help of volunteers."
The volunteers are part of a larger plan to improve fire protection coverage to reduce insurance premiums for property owners.
