Large Montgomery apt. complex fire said to be electrical in nature

An investigation into a massive apartment fire that forced 12 families out of their homes Sunday appears to have been electrical in nature, according to authorities.

An entire building in the Green Meadows Apartment Complex off East Boulevard was destroyed in the blaze that started around 11:00 a.m.

A spokesman for The Montgomery Fire Department said the fire appeared to have started on the first floor. The heat from the fire rose from the first floor and caused heavier damage to the second floor.

Fire Lieutenant Kenneth Jones said no other details about the electrical fire's origin were immediately available other than the classification.

Investigators will go in and try to dig through for leads that will help them determine what caused the fire.

Latoya Lewis, a resident, says she is now left with next to nothing.

No one inside of the apartments was hurt.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital with heat exhaustion and he is expected to make a full recovery.
