Goodwill program gives donated cars to hard-working employees

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Many people donate to Goodwill, but the nonprofit was the one doing the giving Monday, presenting cars to three of its valued employees as part of a new program.

"This is going to make a great big difference," said Goodwill employee Jonnie Ogletree.

What some may take for granted, Ogletree now considers a blessing.

"Oh, it was a blessing from heaven. Yes, I have been praying for one. But I always said, 'God, I can't afford an apartment and a car,' so he answered the prayers for me,'" she said.

The Goodwill employee became one of three to benefit from the new Wheels-To-Work program in which the nonprofit gives donated cars to full-time workers who cannot afford to buy one.

Each worker applied, and a panel selected the recipients based on job performance and attendance.

"It all falls into our mission of changing people's lives. And we just want to enhance our employees, and we've already given them opportunities to work through our program, so I think it just changes their lives," said Goodwill community relations manager Natisha Moultry.

For Ogletree, a new-to-her car means no more bus transfers and long walks on a bad knee.

It seems it also means a new lease on life and an answered prayer.

"Hard to describe how I feel. I'm just overjoyed," she said.

Goodwill has seven more employees on its waiting list right now. If you'd like to donate to the program, visit: http://giveit2goodwill.org/donate/vehicle-donations/.
