COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Elementary students in south Columbus will have a new school to attend by this time next year.

Ground was broken Wednesday morning for the new school, which is being called Elementary School Number 7 for now.

The facility being built on Benning Road will replace Cussetta Road Elementary and Muscogee Elementary. It will house 47 state-of-the-art classrooms and help revitalize the area.

The school, which is being funded by SPLOST, should be completed by June 2014.
