COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A new school year, a new superintendent.

David Lewis was approved unanimously by the Muscogee County School Board as Superintendent last Tuesday, July 23.

Lewis stopped by the WTVM studio today, July 31, for an interview with Cheryl Renee.

Lewis' current 120 Day Plan involves interviewing with various members of the community to learn what they hope to see happen with the school district, and form his long term plan based on these conversations. So far he has spoken individually with each school board member, had conversations with civic clubs, and continues to reach out to the community.

During his first week on the job, Lewis met with principals and individuals in the district office. He also attended a new teachers orientation.

Lewis says there are more similarities than differences between MCSD and the school district he came from. "Kids are kids," he says. "They all have the same basic needs, and one of the things I really want to promote is the fact that all kids need to be known, valued and inspired. We're going to be hoping to do that going forward."

Lewis says Columbus is full of great resources, he and his wife are impressed by the community and look forward to being contributing members.

The new superintendent will be visiting several schools throughout the area on the first day of school, which is August 7.
