Randy Travis discharged from TX hospital

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Country music star Randy Travis has been discharged from a Texas hospital as he continues to recover from a serious heart ailment and stroke earlier this month.

Travis has been receiving treatment at Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano, TX, since July 8, but will now continue his treatment at a physical therapy facility, his public relations firm said Wednesday.

"Thanks to all the fans and friends for your continued prayers and support as Randy continues on the road to recovery," said Travis' fiancée, Mary Davis, in a statement.

Travis was diagnosed with viral cardiomyopathy, a serious disease the American Heart Association says causes the heart muscle to become inflamed and weakened.

Days later, he suffered a stroke and underwent emergency surgery.

The Grammy Award-winner is best known for the country hits Three Wooden Crosses, Diggin' Up BonesDeeper Than the Holler and Forever and Ever, Amen.

He was last seen on stage in June at the CMA Music Festival at LP Field in Nashville, TN and was also among several top country artists to perform at the memorial service for legendary country singer George Jones at the Opry House earlier this year.

A deadly virus is threatening the crawfish industry in Southwest Louisiana. It's called white spot syndrome virus and it was first discovered in Thailand, but somehow it made its way to ponds in South Louisiana and specialists are struggling to find the funds to research a solution.  “The catch was increasing and increasing and then it dropped 70% and that's when you saw the dead crawfish floating in the water,” said a crawfish farmer of 34 years, Ian Garbarino.
