OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -

Officers of the Opelika Police Department responded to a reported robbery Thursday morning at 1:45 a.m. at the Kangaroo gas station on Pepperell Parkway.

A black male entered the business and told the cashier to open the cash register. The cashier partially opened the register and the individual jumped over the counter and opened the cash drawer, taking an undetermined amount of money.

At that time the cashier noticed the subject was holding a steak knife. The subject then grabbed three packs of cigarettes from a storage rack and fled the store on foot. The cashier was not hurt.

The suspect was described as a black male about 30 years old wearing a black jacket, white tank top, a red hat, and a black wig.

Anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to contact the Opelika Police Department Investigative Services Division at (334) 705-5220 or the Secret Witness Hotline at (334) 745-8665.
