AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley met with military and church leaders in Auburn today, August 1, for a new program aimed to help veterans through their churches.

As a veteran himself, Bentley says he knows the struggles of war, as well as the return home. He is dedicated to helping other veterans overcome those struggles.

"We have a program, and it is dedicated to helping our veterans through our churches," says Bentley. "[For] many of our veterans, the first person they will often times go and see is their pastor, and today we are training pastors on how to minister specifically to veterans."

Bentley says veterans need help overcoming issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder, and other types of mental or physical injuries of war.

Several high profile pastors and ministers in the East Alabama area attended today's lecture series and training.
