Crews work to clear flooded roads near Page

One of the highways closed due to flooding in the Page area has reopened.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says a couple feet of mud covered parts of U.S. 89 and State Route 98 near Page following a dose of heavy rain Friday night.

Department spokesman Garin Groff says there is a still a 1-mile section of highway 89 that will likely remain closed through the weekend so pavement repairs can be made.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service said radar indicated that at least 2 inches of rain fell in the area Friday evening, flooding Antelope Canyon.

The runoff sent a wall of water and mud cascading over the roads.

No injuries were reported.
