BACON CO., GA (WTOC) -

Two people have been killed in a small plane crash in Bacon County, GA.

Sid Shah and his wife Shama Gamkhar were travelling in a Hawker Beechcraft A36 single-engine aircraft when they crashed on Wolf Pit Church Rd. five miles northwest of Alma, GA around noon Sunday.

The aircraft was enroute from Fernandina Beach, FL to Lawrenceville, GA when the accident occurred.

"I've walked the debris path myself. It goes for about 100 yards into the tree line. And it's just unbelievable how much debris there is here. And like I said, it's mangled the worst I have ever seen a plane." said Richard Foskey, Bacon County Sheriff.

"I seen a plane fly over the house, and it sounded like it was spitting and sputtering, but then it sounded like it straightened back up. I didn't think nothing else about it." Adam Yearty, nearby resident.

The NTSB is in charge of the investigation and will determine probable cause of the accident.

Wolf Pitt Church Road is closed in both directions while the investigation is ongoing.
