COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Known as a well-respected and valuable man of the Columbus Police department, Corporal Keith Slay lost his life on July 30, 2013 in a car accident while chasing a suspected drug dealer.
Family and friends gathered at McMullen Funeral home on Gentian Blvd for the visitation. Hundreds attended the viewing to pay tribute to an officer who made the ultimate sacrifice.
According to Columbus Police, a car pulled out in front of the officers while in pursuit. They swerved to miss the car but ran off the road, which led to a devastating accident on North Veterans Parkway in Columbus.
The helicopter Corporal Slay used during other previous missions was in plain view outside the funeral home as a vivid reminder of Slay's love for aviation. Corporal Slay started the aviation unit for the Metro Narcotics Task Force earlier this year.
Many have poured out their support for Slay's family with kind words and kind writings on News Leader Nine's Facebook page about an officer who is gone but never forgotten.
